Why can't I set the timing on my outboard? I replaced the timer base and I can't get the 0 or the 24 d to line up with the pointer. It is about 1" to the left. What am I doing wrong? please help?

Why was timer base replaced?-----What is your motor doing / not doing.

It would not idle or run right. I was told it was a electrical problem so i started checking things with a multimeter. The only thing that showed bad was the timer base. The motor does run and it will idle fast and then quit. I wanted to check the timing to see if it was good. Don't really know what to do just trying things. i previously replaced the fuel pump, plugs, and power pack do to a wire that broke. Thanks for your interest.

These motors are famous for broken piston rings.-----Post your actual compression numbers here.----Keep them for future reference.----Replacing parts can get expensive in a hurry.

117 on all cylinders, Would a bad stater effect the timing?
