timing

i believe i messed up the timing on a 73' 115. I just bought this motor not running. i removed the timing belt and do not know what position to replace it in. the flywheel has a yellow mark drawn on it. anybody able to help? thanks

The flywheel should have a factory indented line. As for the yellow drawn line, I don't know unless someone took out the eight bolts that bolt flywheel to the hub and messed up the orientation. They possibly drew that line to do the timing afterwards. What I would do is to keep timing belt disconnected. Place a dial indicator in #1 cylinder and take #1 piston to TDC (Top Dead Center). There should be a line on the flywheel that lines up with the center of the distributor pulley. If it is the "drawn" yellow line, and not the factory line, I would remove the 8 bolts from flywheel and rotate the flywheel until the factory indented line is in center of distributor pulley. Bolt the flywheel back up and be sure the factory indented line is in the center of distributor pulley. Now rotate the distributor pulley until the arrow on distributor pulley points to the factory indented line. Once lined up, slide the timing belt back on and replace cap and bolt.
