Timing question after replacing timer base.

1999 70HP Johnson, I just replaced the timer base and now when I bring the RPMs higher around 2500/3000 rpms the engine surges very rapidly. My question is, does the timing needs to be adjusted after replacing the timer base or this is a fuel related issue. Thanks in advance.

Yes you must double check the timing and the link and sync and adjust as necessary.

Double check the timing but it sounds like a fuel problem. Try pumping the primer bulb when it does it.
