hi,

new to site, new to boat ownership.

I bought a 15hp Johnson. it idles well but there is considerable slop in the throttle and when it is placed in the start position, the timing plate synchronization setting is several inches to the left of the wheel that moves along it and opens up the butterfly plate in the carb.

Clearly, it is out of sync. When the throttle is opened fully, I'm only getting half way along the timing plate.

How do i re-synchronize the plate? Any pointers on good sites or documents to reference to do this work?

I usually fix them after someone else does. The factory service manual for your motor is not on CD.

Most of the throttle/timing problems on the 15 are because someone turned the tiller handle with the arm raised (as described by Mr. Wisner).
