Timing on 50 horse Force

Hi All, I am new to this site and was hoping that someone could clear something up for me.Do I check the timing on my 1988,50 Horse Force with the motor running at WOT in the water,or with the plugs out at WOT?

first of all how can the engine run without plugs anyway you check the timing at idle can be in water or ear muffs on a hose let me know how you make out

Alvin, I believe the best way is wot in the water not on a hose. You should buy a manual for your motor if you plan on keeping it for any length of time.<br /><br />Rich
