1975 65hp mercury outboard motor. long shaft. s/n 4043490. 3 cylinder. the flywheel has 4 dots. one on right marked #1 tdc. the one farthest left marked timing belt. no sticker. flat spot on shaft pointing to #1 tdc. timing belt broke(old age?). A. do I rotate flywheel till #1 tdc mark on flywheel lines up with plastic pointer? I don't understand where the arrow on belt pully lines up. the dot marked timing belt on flywheel is way in front of motor after setting tdc to plastic pointer. help. thanks for any info.

So glad my advice worked for you.The timing sticker was missing on two old Mercs I was given and between the two I was able to get one good motor running.
