I am having some issues on my 2005 3.0L serial number 0W306422 engine. I jumped the 2 white wires from distributor, and bypassed the shift switch like the instructions said, runs like crap at 2 degrees atdc. The only way it runs good is setting timing at 10-12 degrees btdc. Do I set idle rpm(750) before base timing mode or during?

I wanted to check the timing since I am having hot start issues. I have replaced the distributor cap, spark plugs, wires and fuel filter.

yes it runs like crap in base timing mode

however that is how you set base timing, once you get the dizzy to 2 degrees ATDC in base timing, lock it down and pull the shunt

Do I adjust idle rpm when in base timing mode? Also installing and removing shunt should always be done with the engine running correct?

no, you adjust idle separate from timing

doesnt matter on the shunt

Do I install distributor jumper and disconnect shift switch with engine running? And remove and disconnect after setting base timing all while the engine running?

Run engine to warm.
Install shunt and shift switch bypass.
If idling below 650rpm, adjust timing (if above 650, lower to 650, adjust timing)
Remove bypass and shunt.
Adjust idle to 650 in forward gear...

Go fishing...

(installing and removing shunt and bypass can be done with or without the engine running, makes no difference. Timing and idle speed must be set with the engine running though. ;))

Chris...
