I can not synchronize primary pickup, maximum advance, and maximum throttle adjustments because the timing decal on the flywheel are unreadable. I need an illustration of the timing decal. I have looked everywhere even in my repair manual please help.

Re: Timing decal on fly wheel

I'm sorry, I have an 850 mercury serial#4370369 and the timing decal is made of paper. It is worn so much that I can't read it. I was also wondering when you finsh the dial indicator setting is the pointer supposed to be on TDC. And thank you for your reply.

Re: Timing decal on fly wheel

two things you can do. Go to a cooperative boatyard, and ask to be given access to one,and trace it.

But I would remove cylinder1 plug, insert a scewdriver and turn engine by hand to the point where the piston is all the way up. This is top dead center, regardless of what the decal claims it is. Now, picture the flywheel as a pie with 360 slices. Each slice is a degree. The rest is math and a timing light.
I hope this helps ya get back on the water.
