timing and charging johnson 1965 90 hp

hello again, still havnt got fuel problem fixed, but i thought would work on couple of other things while waiting on manual to arrive. can anyone tell me how to time this engine with timing light, where marks are etc. also is there a procedure to adjust carb butterfly? and next of course it isnt charging the battery. where and how do i start checking to see if it is the rectifier or the stator? thanks
