Re: timing a 115 mercury
Disconnect the white/black leads on top of the switchbox terminal,if it has an idle stabilizer.

Remove all the plugs but number one.Disconnect fuel line.
Remove the throttle cable barrel from it's retainer on the cable anchor bracket.
Loosen idle stop screw locknut and turn screw until throttle cam mark align with crankcase braket arrow.
Tighten locknut.
Loosen carberator lever screw.
Holding idle stop screw against stop, move carberator lever until the shutters are completely closed.
The roller should just contact the throttle cam.
Connect the timing light.
Place engine in NEUTRAL and position throttle lever with idle stop screw against it's stop.
Point timing light at the flywheel, crank the engine, and adjust primary pickup screw to set the primary pickup point.

Loosen the maximum spark advance screw locknut and position the throttle lever with the screw against it's stop.
Pointing the light at the flywheel, crank the engine, and adjust screw until timing pointer aligns with the 20* mark on the flywheel's timing decal.Tighten locknut..

Rotate throttle to wide open position. Adjust throttle stop screw to permit full carberater opening without allowing carberator shutters to act as a stop.
There should be .010-.015" clearance between the carberator lever roller and the throttle cam.
Re-install plugs.
Reconnnect white/black leads to the switchbox harness.
And so it is written.
Good luck.
