Tilting the engine

I've got a 1979 Johnson 100 hp engine that has to have the trim/tilt worked on or replaced. The problem is I can't get to it. The motor is in the down position and the trim/tilt is frozen and want budge (salt water engine). I've tried to lift it up by hand, but it moves about an inch and then stops.
I am hoping someone can give me some guidance on how to go about getting the motor in the up position. Any help appreciated.

Have your opened the trim system manual release valve, so that it will permit up/down movement by hand?

There was a bolt on the left side transom mount that I loosened several turns, but it didn't make any difference. I thought that was the right one, but I'm not sure.

Ok, I found it. It's a flat head screw on the right side. I loosened that and she came right up. Almost busted a gut doing it, but it came up. :)

The relief valve is on the starboard side of the t/t unit. Open it two turns. You can see it through a hole in the stern bracket.
