on my '87, i had to remove the entire T&T unit to replace the motor. its not too bad, and easier than pulling the whole engine if you don't have a lift or cherry picker.

You need to remove the entire TnT unit in order to access that screw/bolt.
Many people have cursed that design (including me)
Release the manual tilt screw, lift the motor, engage the manual uplocks.

Remove the tilt pin, remove the upper tilt ram pin, disconnect the wiring, remove the (6 I believe) bolts holding the TnT unit in the transom brackets, or remove the lower pivot pin (if equipped) and slide the unit out.
I remember having to slide the bottom out first, then tilt as you go, and it all clears.

Generic, but it worked for me.
