Hello, I've got a transom bracket/tilt motor assembly from a 1982 Evinrude 90hp (E90MLCNB) that I'm putting on my 1981 Johnson 90hp. The reason is that the transom bracket I have on there now is from a Suzuki and the upper motor mount is rusted out bad, and the tilt motor is bad.. Here's my problem, it seems I'm supposed to have a 2 wire motor on my Evinrude but I have a 3 wire motor. I need to know if they have the same bolt pattern and pin/spindle configuration. I'd rather use the 3 wire motor to bypass any relays or the reversing solenoid if possible. I can't find any numbers on my old tilt motor either. I'd rather not buy a $100 tilt motor and find that it doesn't fit. I appreciate any help!

Re: Tilt trim motor

3 way motors use relays also. the motor draws too much power for the standard switch.

Re: Tilt trim motor

Many of the three wire motors can be switched for two wire motors. It depends on the PT&T manifold so you would need to check the diagrams.

Arco has a good pdf on the wiring differences: http://www.arcomarine.com/xhtml/tech tilt trim motor tips.pdf

As to price of the 2 wire motor, search ebay for PT301NM include title and description.

Re: Tilt trim motor

Hey guys, I got the t/t motor but like I said, the existing motor was 3 wire this is 2. Now, I know I need to get a reversing solenoid (24450). I just need to know if this bypasses all the Suzuki stuff on my motor (relays etc.). It seems to me in the wiring diagram I picked up off of here, after I wire the motor through the RP I'm done. I don't need anything else. If this is true I'm gold. Thanks in advance. Kyle

Re: Tilt trim motor

The reversing solenoid is ideal for a two wire PT&T motor. How are you planning to use it on a three wire motor?

The old motor was 3 wire, the new one is 2 wire.
