I have a 1984 Galaxie with a 3.0 with the omc sterndrive. I put a used tilt/trim motor in it,and it works fine out of the water but when I take it on the lake and try to put the outdrive up at the end of the day,All I get is clicking noise from the relays. When I get home about 30 min. away it works fine it goes up and down with no problems any ideas on whats going on?

If that's still a stringer drive - check your battery charge. It takes a lotta' juice to run that little motor. If the battery is holding a full charge, then check solenoids. If the used motor wasn't recently rebuilt, that may be another issue to look at.

I'm guessing it's heat related, it works again after the engine bay cools down, is there a selonoid mounted to the engine or very close to it? That;s where I would be looking.

Grease the pivots well & make sure the quadrant gear isn't binding. You're not letting the drive slam down are you?
