1979 searay mercruiser sterndrive ser # 5198280 my tilt and trim lines are leaking into the boat. i can not see the connection as it is under the drive shaft on the transom. the lines are dry as far as i can see down. what is the easiest way to get at the lines . on the outside i can see where the 4 trim tilt lines connect to a plate that is screwed to the bottom of the motor. im wondering if i can pry off that plate which is held on by 2 nuts and access that part of the interior lines to replace? sorry if this sounds confusing but any advice or help would be appreciated.

Re: tilt trim leak

thats what ya gotta do to replace the lines from the pump to the transom. kind of a pain. remove all four lines and mark them for where they go. use a 3/8" flare (line) wrench. you won't get the lines off with a regular open end wrench. remove bols in the block in front of the drive and oull down the block and you will see where the pump lines attach. pull those off the bolck and attach a fish line to the end and pull them up into the bilge area and remove from the pump.
