Tilt Motor problem

I have twin 150 Evinrude fitch motors. The boat has been in storage for 6-8 months. One motor tilts both up and down. Other tilt motor only runs in down position. I tested all relays and they are fine. This problem is both from console and engine itself. Thanks

I swapped the relays from other motor and other motor still tilted

use a meter and check the relay control leads at the relay connector. Then check the relay ground. If the coil has a bad ground then relay does not operate.

The connectors inside the relay's socket are essentally spade connectors on wires pressed into plastic. The relay is the male side of the spade; the connector body contains the female connector crimped onto the wire and pressed into plastic.

If the relay doesnt line up when pressed in place, the female connector can be pressed back out of the plastic causing the contact area to be the tips of the spade instead of the relay sliding into the female connector.

Pulling the female in place with needle nose pliers fixed it for me.

If you activate the switch back on the mtr or else in the handle and listen real closely can you hear the relays clicking. Another thing you could do is follow the green and blue wires coming from the t/t mtr to a connector. Take it appart and run 12 volts directly to the t/t mtr with jumper wires. If the mtr doesn't work you may have a stuck brush in it from sitting. If it works you got wiring probs.

Thanks for all the input. It turned out to be a hungup limit switch
