Tiller install

I have a 1987 25 HP outboard that is a remote set up. I have located a tiller handle for it but I have been told I need to change some of the linkage or brackets in the motor. Can anyone tell me what I need to get this connected and if I need parts which ones(part numbers if possible) and where I can get them either new or used.

I think I would contact Mercury and get a parts list for your serial number. That way you can see what you need. A Mercury service manual will tell you how to adjust cables and throttle cam too.

For parts I would check ebay. You can also buy new if not NLA, but this is an expensive route.
