Re: Ticker (heart) Surgery

I may have to have some major surgery in the not so distant future. I have a small hole in my heart, (I forget the complicated word they use for it) but for now they're just watching it to see what happens. They tell me if it doesn't get worse it's not that big a deal. For now I just get tired really fast because of it.

I have never had it but my vote may throw the results for question 2 off. It wont let you vote without putting an answer to 2 in.

Yeah, I had the same issue. Can't vote honestly on 2 if you vote no on 1 . . .

Re: Ticker (heart) Surgery

I have had three heart surgeries. One baloon angioplasty, one stent and one double bypass.

None were a piece of cake but none were the worst thing that ever happened to me. The bypass was a lot more serious than the others and took longer to recover from, but the relief from the pain and weakness was so great that the tubes and the staples in my sternum were easy to take.

The worst things that ever happened to me were falling into a fire pit at age 4 (third degree burns on hands and from knees to ankles) and Trans Urethal Resection of my Prostate (TURP).

Getting shot and stabbed were pieces of cake by comparison. :)

I recently had three stents put in. Thanks to God and morphine, it wasn't too bad physically.
Mentally, though, I'm still recovering, and I wonder if the memory of this experience will ever recede as much as I would like it to.

88seville:

The hardest part of recovery is to regain a future; to get rid of the idea that life as you knew it is over. Actually, when you get there life is better than it has been in years.

You must avoid thinking and acting like an invalid.

Memory? It was one incident in which you took a step back to pre-occlusion days when you could do things without pain or breathlessness. The next time you trot up a flight of stairs without gasping will make you smile.

I recommend a cardiac rehab program to accellerate both physical and mental recovery.

Best of luck to you. :)
