The little bas@@@d's.

Many insects are benificial. These are NOT.
What purpose can they possibly serve?
Except to torment mankind and our faithful
animal servant's.

Why in the world did God place them here???

I agree. Our neighbor is also our vet. She told me that this is a really bad year for them too!

Re: Tick season

I pulled a big ole tick off my wifes back 2 days ago. It was stuck pretty good and took a little skin with it, but its gone.

I normally like to cover them in vasoline or use a match, but she was flipping out!

Re: Tick season

A few months ago the wife and I took the dogs up to KY for a week and, between the dogs and both of us, pulled off about 70-80 ticks. It was absurd. We had them in places I wish to forget and had marks from them for over a month. The dogs kept giving us looks of "make it stop" for a good week.

I have no idea what to do to remove them from an area you use often, as you just can't live like that on a regular basis.

We do.:p

We live on 4 1/2 acres of mostly woods. Went out last night and mowed
tall grass around a pond. Doused myself in Deep Woods Off first. After, you
HAVE to take a shower and do a tick check. It's not fun but we love where
we live.

Right now is the worst time, we have the little tiny ones, about as big as
the head of a pin. They are the worst but they are only around in the spring.
Then we just deal with the big ones for the rest of the summer.
At least you can usually see or feel the bigger ones before it's too late.

Go ahead and laugh, but if I'm going to spend a day clearing brush, weed eating, etc.
I wear panty hose. Learned this from an old farmer, it works but they are kind of brutal
on a 90 deg. day.

Panty hose tip: Have your wife or girlfriend buy them for you, to avoid the look I got from
the checkout lady at the grocery store, the first time I tried
this.:D

Good tip, but I was looking for a more, "Napalm the whole area!" kind of solution ;). I once had a purple lunch bag and thought nothing of it until darn near everyone at work commented on it, but that whole pantyhose idea just might be a step too far for me.. although you can ask me again the 50th time I'm picking ticks off of me and I may have a far different reaction, to both the napalm and the pantyhose..

Seriously, though, are there any chemicals or flowers/plants which can be spread in the area which fend off the tick attack? They must hate something enough to stay away, or better yet, die.

Re: Tick season

Keep the grass mowed is about the best you can do. We live in the woods here and you'll get them all over you as soon as you exit the lawn...

They DO serve a purpose, though...bird/bat food.

Don't know if that's good enough to justify their existance, but hey...

Re: Tick season

I live in a heavily wooded area with lots of ticks. I use a small chemical sprayer (Dial n Spray by Ortho) that hooks onto a water hose. I use liquid "Seven" in the sprayer.
Works real well, but after a hard rain I have to reapply again.

If you find any let me know. Wearing panty hose is not high on my list of things to do.

We have lots of birds and bats. Apparently not enough.

Body chemistry does seem to matter though, some people attract more than others.

It just occured to me, their is something WORSE then ticks.

Exactly. We all give off a scent that differs according to body chemistry.
Thats why some have more problems with them than others. Thats how
they find us. And boy, can they jump far.

Re: Tick season

This time of the year here we have a combination of sand knats, skeeters, black flies, deer flies, yellow flies and now horse flies along with fleas, ticks and redbugs. If going out for a while I spray with deep woods off or something close to it. Out of all this the ticks and redbugs are the worst, they always seek out the places you do not want them the most. When my father in law was alive, he ate a lot of linburger cheese and onion sandwiches, nothing bothered him, he asked doctor about it one day and was told that what he ate made him stink, so the bugs stayed away.

Re: Tick season

Yea it does matter what you eat that keeps ticks off.
Here is a mixture that my wife's family uses to keep ticks, mosquitoes, etc. while camping. Old timers swear by it. Use only at your own risk!

WARNING: People who are allergic to sulfa drugs should not take this remedy. Can cause yeast infection. Allergic reaction is stomach pain leading to diarrhea.

Things You'll Need:
? Sulfur
? Cream of tartar
? Honey
? Pint jar
1.
Thoroughly mix together 2 tsp. sulfur, 1 tsp. of Cream of Tartar and 1 pint of honey in a pint jar. Sulfur can be found over the counter in most pharmacies.
2.
Take 1 tsp. of this recipe every day. Spread it on bread. It will take about two weeks for the repellent to become effective.
3.
Continue consuming this recipe throughout the mosquito/tick season. Be certain to thoroughly mix this recipe before consuming it.

Re: Tick season

I was standing outside next to a vegetarian guy one evening and was eaten alive while the skeeters never bothered him. He claimed sweat from meat eaters attracts blood sucking bugs more.

I don't think it works that way.
