thunderbolt 500 staling

hey so i got my motor running took the boat out a couple times runs great once its going
but it wont get going unless i pump the ball when i acelerate
i have a new ball and fuel line
what could this be its a 69 mercury thunderbolt 500

Sounds like a bad fuel pump. Youre acting as the fuel pump by pumping the bulb yourself.

Ive just rebuilt the fuel pump

Stupid comment.. but do you have the vent on the fuel tank open?

If the pump is new and put together right, it is probably sucking air through one of the fuel line hose fittings between the fuel pump and the tank. Could be a cracked hose. But make sure to check the new clamps where you attached the new fuel line and bulb to the old fittings.
