throttle remote lever loosening

Ive got a 1989 Sea Ray 23' cuddy with a 5.7 mercruiser and a Quicksilver remote. I had it apart recently and now I tighten the set screws down and after using forward and reverse eventually it works itself loose. Any suggestions without having to purchase a new remote?

locktite on the set screws?

worth a shot I guess. But I dont think the set screws are backing out.

What is it that is "loosening" up? They are not super complicated. Is one of the pieces cracked or something?
