When I go at wide open throttle my motor bogs down a bit. When I pull back a bit it runs fine. When I try to stay at a steady 4500 rpms the motor seems to want to run away sometimes to 5500 or 6000 rpms.I try to tap it back just a little and it drops back to 4000 or less. Its a 1987 or 88 Evinrude 40 horse with a disabled vro. Also I use high test should I be using regular. Thanks for any help.

Re: throttle problem rpms

The problem isn't the engine, it's the prop. The hub has spun out.Take the prop off, send it to a prop shop. 2 days and 35buks,and you'll be back on the water.
