Throttle Cable PN

So my throttle cable doesn’t wanna retract all the way after giving it gas. When I’m giving it, for example, half throttle and then go to slide back into neutral it stays revved up and I have to go back to the engine bay and manually push it back so it will come back down to idle RPMs so I’m assuming it’s just stretched out. My question is does anybody have the PN for a 5.0 GL PBYC? I’ve looked on the Volvo Penta store because I can usually find what I need there, but I can’t find find it. I type it in on google search and it brings up a different 5.0 from the Volvo Penta store. Any help is appreciated.

Look on the end of the sheath (cover).
There should be numbers on the end so you can order the right length.
There all universal

Ok, thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware they were universal. I’ll take it off later today to see what I find.

they are not. they are specific to the length and the control type. hence why you must look at the numbers on your old cable.

Well here’s what I found. Of course it looks like the numbers I need for the length are rubbed off.

good thing they are stamped every 12" or so
Mine must’ve been rubbed off because that’s all I could find. However, I did read that you measure from tip to tip and if it falls in between a foot mark then you just round up to the nearest foot.

Alright guys and gals, I want to update y’all, I installed the new cable, everything looked like it matched up as the ends were the same as what was on my old cable, but after installing, the lever would only go forward and not reverse. Is it possible the cable was just messed up, or is there something I forgot? I know that’s generic, but it just doesn’t make sense. It was “so far off” that I wasn’t even able to connect it on the carburetor side and by that I mean it was too long it seemed. It’s like I would’ve had to give it half throttle on the carburetor side (not the control side) to get it to connect.

You may have it connected wrong at the controls

Ayuh,..... Does the controller work, without the throttle cable attached,..??
It sounds like the shifting part of the controller ain't quite right,....

Yeah it does. I think Scott could be right. I’m gonna mess with it today and see what I can do. The other day when I was installing it, I was starting to get aggravated and could’ve just connected it on the wrong side of the controller. My worst fear though, is it may not be the throttle cable that’s causing my original problem because both cables seemed to glide back and forth the same which tells me the new one wouldn’t help my situation. I may just have to degrease a bunch of the external springs around the carb.

Here’s what I’m working with. I put my old cable back on and it’s doing the same thing so obviously there’s something that I’m doing wrong and I can’t figure it out. I put everything back to how it was before I took it off.

To put it in perspective, it’s like when the control is in neutral it’s full throttle at the carburetor and then with the control all the way in reverse it’s at neutral/idle RPMs and when I try to push the control forward it will barely even budge.

Ayuh,..... It sounds like the cables are switched at the controller, or the controller is beat,.....
