This shaft is too long, right?

This is my 9.9 Evinrude on my 1648 Lowe Jon boat. This is a long shaft on a short transom, right? It seems to run fine and will plane the boat with two people. Should I elevate the transom to the correct height or just keep using it as-is? I could certainly fish shallower water if it were up a few inches.

From the camera angle it's too long, kneel down to take a pic so we see the relationship clearly..

Not too far off the mark. Raising it won't hurt. A couple of inches in shallow water probably won't won't help much. It's what makes you happy that counts.

Looks like a short shaft, I’d say. Transom looks like it’s less than usual dimensions. Measure your transom. If it’s less than about 17”…it’s as above.

There is no 5" spacer.----The motor is a short shaft for 15" transom !!

Thanks. Somehow I had gotten it in my head this was a long shaft motor.
