No kidding. The starter on my daughter’s Nissan Altima need to be replaced. The top bolt on the starter was easy to see and access and removal was a breeze. The bottom bolt was blind and required a long extension. Thank goodness I reviewed a couple YouTube videos about replacing the starter. It alerted me to the fact that the lower bolt was a smaller size.

I have a deal with the devil. It's a done deal I'm "going down there" but he agreed I get to be in charge of engineers.

In my life I've done some work, my own, cars, pickups, a little farm stuff, sold auto parts for 15 years, worked in HVAC/R service about a dozen, and for a Motorola outfit installing E911 radio telco gear. And the last 4 years (I'm 73 now) I built electronics components for custom power wheelchairs. Got laid off this summer. I have NO use for engineers

Anybody ever heard of a "Lennox Pulse?"

I may have posted about this before but what the heck.

I worked for a Tier 1 automotive supplier for about 22 years in engineering. The key aim was Design for Manufacturing, NOT Design for Easy Repair. The point was to make it easy, fast and CHEAP to build. During that time I spent a lot of time in auto assembly plants and I can guarantee you that starter was very easy and quick to assemble, therefore cheap. When you watch a car go through the assembly line you begin to understand the design.

A few years ago the wind caught the door of my 2008 Jeep GC and apparently sprung the hinge. I took it to a body shop and he said he'd need to replace the hinge. He wrote up the estimate and said, "Good thing you're sitting down." 352 bucks to replace the hinge. They had to take the whole front fender assembly off to get at the hinge. Still I could see that it was probably very easy to put it together at the assembly plant.

Agreed.----Designed to snap together at the assembly line.------No consideration for quick affordable repairs.------Remember the days of the round and rectangular headlights.-----Scary what it costs today to replace one headlight assembly.-----See the video of the TESLA battery at $ 22,000 to replace.----Fellows were proud to repair it.-----Still cost $7,000
