A 38-year-old motorist was killed when his car was struck by part of an axle that came loose from a tractor-trailer truck in Pasadena today.
The incident happened a few minutes after 8 a.m. on Texas 225 near Richey, said Pasadena police spokesman Vance Mitchell.
Mitchell said the truck, owned by Houston Distributing Co. was heading west when a portion of the rear axle assembly broke loose.
The axle hit the center rail and then bounced into the eastbound lanes where it hit a 1996 Nissan. The impact killed the driver of the Nissan. His name was being wittheld pending notification of family.
Traffic on the eastbound lanes was tied up for about three hours.
Mitchell said any criminal charges are pending the results of the investigation.
