Thinking about installing a fixed gas tank

Hello all,

1st time posting, long long time lurker. First let me say this is an unbelievable resource for boats. Crazy the amount of topics to look at and a data base that is endless.

I own a 14ft phantom bass boat fiberglass, and I am thinking about converting the pull out gas tank to a permanent one. Is this something that can be easily done? I have space in the rear compartment for one. Right now I am running a 6 gal tank that is just a pain in the butt to fill due to the small opening to get into the back compartment. I would like to know if anyone has done this before and your opinion on whether or not this could be a good idea and make filling up easier.

Right now in the back compartment I have 2 batteries one crank and one to run electronics and trolling motor. Have the trim pump and that is it.

All you would have to be sure of is that you have a convenient location for your fill spout. You will have to drill a hole in a fixed location and make sure you have a straight shot to the tank. With that said, pay attention to the location on the tank you install. You don't want a hook-up on the opposite end of the tank from your fill spout.

okay so after shopping around it looks like a perm tank dimensions will not work for my boat due to size and space of the opening.

I have seen a few pics of people taking a removable gas tank and installing the sending units on them. Can anyone tell me if this is a bad idea to do? What i am thinking about is using a portable tank that fits the dimensions and still running the sending unit for the gas gauge. I would find a place that would be easier for fill up as well. if I use a portable tank do i need to run the vents or is this not needed with a port gas tank.
