thickness of aluminum console

hi all,

newbie here.
I am in the process of restoring a bluefin 16' that's very similar to the starcraft SS.
am trying to make an aluminum console to replace the rotten wood ones that it currently has.
could someone please tell me what gauge and what grade of aluminum it should be?(or what you have on yours?)

5052 aluminium alloy
5059 aluminium alloy
5083 aluminium alloy
5086 aluminium alloy
6061 aluminium alloy
6063 aluminium alloy

5052 and 6061 will probably be the easiest to find.

I'd go with 1/8" (.125 gauge)

Ayuh,... The Hull is only .063".... .125" is pretty thickly...

My console base is 1/8", I discovered this when I ripped the carpet off and wrapped it in vinyl:

Mine is 11/128 inches or .086, although I'm picking up a coat or two of paint. Plenty strong.

do you think it should be strong enough to hold the windshield that's gonna be sitting on top of it?
and will a 2'x4' enough for one console?

Ayuh,... Sheet metal, Any of it, is Flimsy as 'ell....

that's Why ya bend corners into it,...

Strength comes from Structure....

You must have a tape measure, Measure how much material ya need...
We can't know how Big ya wanta build it.....
