Thickening resin for Biaxial tape?

I am preparing to lay biaxial tape over my motor mount stringers. I have routed a good radius as the top cap of the mount turns down to the bilge wall. I am also going to let the tape run up the up the transom and the forward bilge bulkhead wall to reinforce the motor mount joints to same.

Would it be a good idea to slightly thicken the resin, with cabosil, to help stick the tape around all the corners? I wouldn't exactly make a paste out of it and I'd still use the roller to get out the bubbles.

As usual, any input would be appreciated.

Don't thicken the resin, it'll make it harder to wet the tape out properly, which will make it harder to stick round the corners not easier.

i agree.. also buy a few scissors at a 'dollar store' ( for a dollar ).. you'll have to cut/knotch/an fold the cloth accordinly.. as per to remove the 'pucker' from going around stuff an transitions..

clean up up vinegar if usin' epoxy..

?????Vinegar? At what point, crab bait? I already did one motor mount stringer.

When i finish the other one I will make one continuos run of 10 oz cloth from the hull, across the new floor, down over the new biaxial covered stringer, across the bilge floor and up over the other mount and back across the new floor to the hull.

Prior to doing that I was going to wash down the new biaxial cloth, sand it then wash it with acetone.

I'm doing the whole back end of the boat using white pigment in the epoxy. The floor, forward of the bilge, will get covered in new vinyl, so I will just use natural resin in the cloth.

the vinegar to clean sissors, hands, excess,an stuff.. un-cured ofcoarse..

works better than ANYTHING... an cheap an SAFE,too..

best to wash sanded epoxy with a 50/50 water an ammonia.. then rise an let dry..
believe me,, that's as good as it gets,, an nothing else is needed..( save your money an brain-cells ..you'll need them on DC chat.. :) ..)

sounds like your doin' a VERY good job.. an want to commend you for it..

about the fuel tank.. a layer or 2 of epoxied cloth would be awlsome..

as compared to what? Between coats ?

Sounds a lot safer than acetone.

Thanks,
Mike

between coats no .. just sand ( more like scuff ) if need be..an if you see a need to wipe down ,, still use a rag dipped in a bucket of 50/50.. it really is the poop for removing wax.. but with anything,, you must scuff it with sandpaper first.. don't need to 'finish sand'.. just scuff with a real heavy paper .. i like 3m GREEN sanding discs myself.. even in my hand for hand sanding.. it's the best, long lasting non-clogging paper i ever found..

i use epoxy that doesn't wax-up.. but if'n i did,, to save alota time an work,, just don't let it cure to that point where it does wax-up...

it goes to cured workable/do-able surface to complete cure with wax.. catch it right,, there's hours of le-way,, before wax happends.. add second coat/layer within that time frame..

the 50/50 mix wash an rinse is more for the final when you wanna paint or varnish..instead of 'prepsol' acetone or solvents..

the vinegar is for clean up.. an really works..
