95-96 yamaha 115 4 cyl can i remove stats and run without causing any damage to moter? temp gauge flashes and then alarms sound. checking to see if alarms still go off and if engine decreases after running 3/4 to full throttle for about 1 min and then i can bring to idle for 30 sec and go again for 1 min and so on. Any Help?

Re: thermostats

Not a good idea to run without thermostats. It probably won't hurt the motor but it won't be very efficient. You need to find out why it is overheating. When is the last time the impeller was replaced?

Re: thermostats

I will not leave out the thermostats but just test to see if gauge still flashes and if buzzer goes off and shuts me down. is that ok to test for about a mile or so? and yes impeller was replaced three mths ago with very minimul use on boat since.

three mths ago impeller replaced with very little use since. runs very well until buzzer breaks down the rpms and guage flashes temp.

Re: thermostats

I have seen impellers loose vanes in less than a year on my own motor, all I can think is I failed to lower motor all the way into water before firing up, but just for a second or two. It pumped water but not like it should, indicator should try to drill a hole into the driveway when pumping right, even at idle.

Just pull and inspect to be sure, and then pull thermostats and test/replace
