As some of you know, I have a 1988 Johnson 70hp 3cyl. and I'm wondering if anyone knows what the part number(s) could be for the thermostat KIT? I am concerned because the thermostat that I picked up when I bought the water pump kit came with like 4 different springs and one extra different kind of cover for the thermostat. Thanks ~Mike

Re: Thermostats

Mike, if the parts were genuine OMC/BRP parts there should be a detailed instruction sheet enclosed.I've seen it,but sure can't remember all the details.

DHP

Re: Thermostats

If it is a Bombardier kit,Read the instructions that came with it as to the T/stat springs and cover. It explains what spring and cover to use depending on which your engine was manufactured with. There were a few changes.

Re: Thermostats

I should add that this was spring of last season, and I don't have anymore of the paperwork. I'm really looking just to replace the thermostat and spring, seal, cover, inner seal...ect...,so I figure that there must be an aftermarket company that would offer an entire kit. I'd like the option of having differnt temp thermostats to choose from....Thanks
Mike

The thermostat that I bought last year is junk. It doesn't open when I boil it in water.

This is why you need to get these parts from a Bombardier dealer that carries the right parts, installation procedures, and any updates that applies to your engine.Waterpump capacities(impeller design),T/stat bypass spring tensions, and T/stats are designed to work together as a matched part of the cooling system components.Intermingling aftermarket designs and parts does not conform to the manufacturers(OMC/Bombardier) tested recommendations for your engine.

If you purchased a genuine Johnson-Evinrude part, you have a one year warranty on it.

The parts were bought at a Johnson/Evinrude dealership!!!I'll try taking it back if there is a one year warranty. I did not know that!
