Re: Thermostats removed

Usually wont cause a problem... The engine will just run cooler than it was designed to, which usually decreases power and fuel economy. I have had to do it to vehicles when I couldnt get a part... I would always replace asap though. In a vehicle, the most noticable difference is fuel economy. Why were they taken out in the first place? I would see about getting them replaced.. Fairly inexpensive part and not too hard to do.

Re: Thermostats removed

There is a situation called "cold seizing" that can occur by running without thermostats. What happens is the engine block itself does not heat up as fast as the pistons, especially under hard loading. Therefore the pistons expand against the cylinder walls and the engine seizes and dies. While it is not as big a problem in warm waters, it can be a very serious issue up here in the tundra where our water is quite cold. Thermostats were put in the engine for a purpose. If they weren't necessary, that expense would certainly have been avoided by the manufacturers. Replace them pronto.
