Thermostat

I have a 1967 Evinrude 60HP sport four. I need to get to the thermostats, I believe they are located behind motor between cylinder heads in a box with two hoses going to cylinders. I remove 5 screws that holds top of box on but still won't come off. Any ideas.

If you have indeed removed all of the retaining screws, and none are broken off, the top portion is simply stuck.<br /><br />Hold on to it, then tap it sideways. It should break loose. Note that there is also a spring loaded water relief valve under that cap.
