What will happen if I put in a thermostat without the grommet in my 1972 35hp chrysler? Will it function properly without the grommet. I have the gasket just not the grommet.

Re: Thermostat - No Grommet

Without the grommet, it won't seat correctly, and might as well not be installed. I strongly advise that you do not run it for long periods without it, however.
This is because coolant will over-cool some areas, while under cooling others, creating holy piston symdrome or warping the head.
you might be able to make one by wrapping a bead of high temp silicone around the t-stat,and letting it cure, then, installing it.
But a new t-stat costs about the same as a tube of goop (9buks), and comes with the grommet.
