Thermostat Cooling Mod question... again =)

How do you guys remove the hard plastic sleeve that seats the new style thermostat. Its a bugger to get out. I dont want to have to remove the cylinder head to have to get this sleeve out. There has to be an easier way.

Oh sorry. E200TXEDR #48 in the parts breakdown. Part #0337533 . I am installing the seat and salt & pepper shaker type thermostats, and also removing the existing thermostat bypass covers. I haven't ever had to remove these sleeves before. Seems like they need to be pounded out from the other side, but not sure. Thanks

If you don't want to save them take a small cold chisel and just split them and remove the pieces with a needle nose pliers. An old cotter pin puller with the hook on the end might also work. There's seal pullers sold at parts houses that will also work.

Thats my last option, but I dont want pieces falling into the heads cooling passages. These things are in there to stay man. I had a spare head in the garage, and I was practicing on it before proceeding on the motor. The last little bit was hard as hell to get out. I ended up using a torch to gently melt the plastic out. I dont want to do this to my good heads. Oh well, here goes. I will try to split em... thanks

I ended up using a small inside bearing puller. Worked great. I have it all together now, and took it for a trial run. The Water pressure at idle is normal. But at operating speeds, it is only about half of what it used to be. Is this due to the softer springs? The S.L.O.W system works just fine on this motor, and it never tried to overheat. This seems logical, but not sure. Water pump was just fine last time out, and of course i never run the motor dry.
