Theoretical question on boat speed with 1 or 2 motors

Yes I understand that................But if I had a boat with twin 150's I believe I would be carrying spare props with me that would be more suitable should one engine fail........... But if some people don't think a kicker is a good idea I'm guessing they don't think a spare prop is either..................

changing a prop in the ocean can be quite an undertaking...

I don't think anyone thinks a kicker is a bad idea..... Just that compared to the main engine(s) working correctly it isn't all THAT much better than being dead in the water.... Yes it MIGHT get you back but if that's all you have in the ocean you may well be in a very dangerous situation....
