One more wrestling match to go with this odd shaped bear
All sanded, holes drilled and 2 fitting wrestling matches behind me, that is a big hunk of wood and almost too much for one man to handle. Started the sealing process. I do my transom sealing a bit differently than most, I put on a coat of alkyd enamel primer, 2 coats of tractor alkyd enamel paint with catalyst hardener and 2 coats of spar over that. I would say that it has to be better than SC's one coat white wash. I did both my other transoms the same way and they still look great and the SN's transom is partially exposed. Yeah I left the SS 1.25" screws in too on this one, filling the holes would be a pita and hopefully I'll never see it again as long as I live.
I plan on adding side .080 brackets that are solid riveted to the sides of the hull to tie into the transom through bolts so the sides become one with the transom as this V5 doesn't have them and I think it should. Time to break out my home made metal brake.
The holes through the transom skin for the motor mounts are in the wrong position but thankfully I measured them on the motor before drilling the holes in the transom wood. I plan on fabbing up a .100 motor pad and attach it with 5200 so that should seal up the 2 holes in the skin and cover some minor pitting from the wood pad..
