Glad that you guys made the Deal & Rob finally got his V5!

I'm confused...the cap plate was in there the whole time?

When do you start tearing into it?

Sounds like the IM team Starmada saved the day and salvaged the mission, working around the overzealous government officials.

Exactly, we put forth the power of 2 countries greatest minds :canada::usa2:and came up with the plan :spy: Glen and his smart phone was the only one with cell data service which allowed us to gain access to the cap plate image but even then it was a bit of a struggle.

I feel bad that I forgot to thank the customs officer for his service to the nation since all he was trying to do is save the good ole USA from a US made Starcraft boat that didn't have a cap plate saying that on the date of manufacture the vessel complied with the USCG rules. Of course on that day it wouldn't even float for more than a few minutes before going under and everything was gutted out of it . I assured the officer that I would affix a new plate after the boat is restored and before using it. :eagerness:

You're saying that you used a cell phone image and the customs guy let her in? Good that it worked!

Glad ya made the round trip OK and the SS is back where she belongs. :D

Wow, I'm glad that worked!
Usually it's the trailer that causes trouble at the border.

I think using this thread will work for the restoration so Ill just keep it going.

It was a long week driving by the V5 SS every day having to wait for my days off to get some things done on her and look over the job that lays ahead. Got everything unloaded and inside except for the hull.

Yeah the sun wasn't even up yet. :)

Rivets, I think there was an issue with the solid rivets alloy content, maybe a defect in the order SC got. It's a bit difficult to tell in the pic but some bucktails have a green hue to them while others are the normal gray. I'm betting the green ones are all toast and need replaced. Oh yeah and there's lots of scribe lines on the bottom.

Not sure what they were thinking when they laid a massive bead of clear silicone along the deck support stringers at the bottom but there is a way for the water to get out, a 1" drain hole back by the bilge on each side.

Here's some odd void filled, unsealed weak looking transom ply that was used. It appears as though this 9 layer ply was not a laminated rather one manufactured piece. It's also not one piece, it has the wings.

Yeah it's rotten.

Oh yeah and SC with those steel mandrel blinds, there's a bunch of these rust lines.

Glad to see you getting started Rob. I'm pretty sure that bead of silicone was from the P/O he had started putting new decking, with no flotation and using drywall screws:facepalm:

Yeah Glen it's great having this fine old rivet challenged gal. Finally I have what I'd been looking for to round out my Starmada collection and thanks again for giving me the opportunity! .

I decided to strengthen my OB motor stand due to the size and weight of the power. The process of getting the motor from the bed of my truck onto the stand created some anxiety as well as the need for some help from a come along and my photo bombing resto buddy with his ever full mug of cold beer.

That TOP is a beast!

Nice motor. I checked and it weighs 290 lbs. You have quite a package with all that power in a light weight. A modern 150 Optimax is 145 pounds heavier., and my 90 4 stroke is 70 pounds heavier. Plus those old sixes just look so right.

Congratulations on getting the V5. I'm just now catching up on things having been away for a few weeks, and what do I find but two members of the Starmada having an impromptu border bash. Glad you all were able to get the customs agent to see the light.

Looking forward to what I'm sure will be another stellar rebuild.:pop2:

I've been thinking since I don't have a need for a bow rider type boat, I'm going to build her into a V5 Super Fisherman. Redesigned with livewells, hatches, trolling motor and big batteries. Not so much a show boat but one to use that gets me out on the fish but that doesn't mean she won't catch the eye with her fine lines.

Thanks for stopping by guys and I hope you have a great weekend. :yo:

I seem to remember Glen comparing V5 vs lapstrake SS'es and the V5 was smaller in the bow seating area. A V5 SFM mod should work out well. Good plan!

Your right GA, and the SFM models are pointed more in the bow too with wide gunnels, it's the wide rounded shape of the LS model SS that gives it more room up front.

Weather is typical spring rain and March winds here but I was able to tear into the consoles today inside the hangar and at least get them cleaned up. Can't say I missed the smell of airborne corrosion
