It sounds like the fuel injection system on this motor is an open loop system? If yes, then guru is on the money. You're making more power by allowing more air but it will be running lean which is not good.

Any updates on how the motor with the restrictor removed is going?
I just purchased a 2012 model 40hp and would be keen to see if there have been any 'ill effects' since the previous posts?
