Ok, have made my way through timing, plugs, new cables, points clean and adjusted, so now I am onto fuel I believe.

Keep in mind I have not cleaned the carb yet but that is on the list and may be causing this issue.

I am finally able to start the engine. I can start it sometimes with the choke off and sometimes in auto choke, strong smell of fuel at the carb. Once it does start it will a idle for 15 secs, then 30, then it idles pretty good for a while but after a couple minutes a good deal of smoke starts to appear and it becomes pretty thick in the water barrel and around the motor. Any thoughts on this?

Also, I have a couple images of a hose and water was slightly leaking from it. I know I need to replace the hose but should water be leaking from it? and can this hose be bought at local hardware store and if so what is it?

Sounds like the problem is carb flooding. Needle is probably sticking. Strip and soak the carbs in Gunk Parts and Carb cleaner. Local auto parts store should have it. I use it on all carbs with great results. Don't use the spray cleaners they can do damage. Rebuild with a new carb kit. You will have to go aftermarket or to one of the vintage parts guys for the kit. If the fuel is old dispose of it and get fresh. Always treat with Stabil.
The hose needs replacing. It is part of the water flow system. Similar hose is available at hardware stores. Would recommend using hose clamps not the wire clamps shown.

when running in a barrel use a fan to blow the smoke away. The hoses go to the thermostat. There are two of them. The originals are still available. One the one side it's a tricky fit to use a regular heater hose, but it can be done.

You'll find that your engine produces plenty of smoke in a barrel. Once you're zooming across the water, it doesn't seem so bad.

Don't try to jam an ordinary heater hose in there. You'll probably break the outlet at the thermostat housing. Instead, go to an auto parts dealer that deals with Dayco brand heater hoses and buy hose #71624 for the starboard side and hose #71692 for the port side. They have a nice shape that fits the application well after cutting to length. But you'll still need to be careful not to break the tstat housing connector.

By the way, I wouldn't consider this to be a lesser-quality repair by using the Dayco hoses as opposed to the OEM. The OEM hoses that you'll find were probably manufactured many years, or even decades, ago. They are probably stiff, prone to splitting and generally beyond their shelf life. If you get the Dayco hoses, ask the auto parts guy if you can handle a few of them. You can then bend them to see which are the softest. I did that when I bought mine and I did notice that some were more flexible than others. The important thing is to buy the most flexible hoses that you can so that you don't break the tstat housing connectors. If you haven't priced a tstat housing yet, you'll be shocked to learn just how much they cost.
