The original is a 16-pitch prop, can I use a 15-pitch?

Thank you for looking at this.

I have a Mercury 60 hp ,2007 bigfoot EFI motor and I am looking just to replace the prop. max rpm is 6,000 RPMs, 15 teeth, 3 blade, aluminum boat, heavy load

It calls for a 16 pitch 13.5 prop and it's somewhat hard to find for a decent price online. ( part number 854360a45) I can find a 15-pitch with all the same info for a lot less (link under) My question is should I keep looking for a 16 pitch or is the 15 pitch ok? I usually run with a lot of weight on the boat. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to IBoats,

Which wot rpm did the motor achieved with a 16 pitched prop while running heavy loaded on flat calm water cond. ? A 15 pitch prop will rev more than a 16 pitched prop. Can compensate that situation adding more passengers or throttling bit less....

A 15 will work for you. Only concern would be when lightly loaded the engine RPMs "might" exceed the recommended upper RPM limit for your engine. If that's the case, just reduce the throttle setting till they are within the correct range.

You will notice better thrust at low speeds when getting on plane and slightly reduced speed for a given RPM......but if max RPMs are still within range the increase you get with the 15 at W.O. Throttle will twist your prop shaft faster which will make up for the 1" less pitch....maybe more. But if cost is your primary objective, so be it!
