I can't believe how fast the time flys by.
Got my nymph in the side yard about a week ago and started work a few days ago.
Originally I didn't think I needed to replace the transom, and mounted the 05 60 HP merc on it.

Then the more I looked the less pleased I became...
Found "Micky mouse" repairs...
Bad enough that I found both non SS fasteners (screws and bolts) but someone actually used drywall screws too.
In addition to the factory aluminum stiffener on the inside of the transom someone installed a 1/4 X 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 angle iron.
I don't have a problem with that but with all the fasteners I started noticing on the back of the transom (over 30).
I took a wire wheel on a drill to uncover paint/calking on the heads. Not one washer was used on the heads.
((6) 3/8" bolts, (16) 1/4" machine screws)), then screws from #12 down to 8's and only about 4 were stainless.
Tonight I'm at the point that all I should need to do is remove 4 more drywall screws from the port side which most likely I will have to cut them with a sawsall between the bracket and where their attached to on the inside of the transom, (no room to get to them ).

So with all the holes in the back of the boat I decided to add a 3/16" thick piece of aluminum over the entire back side.
Replace the plywood in the transom (looked like warmed over death but survived the screw driver test :)
And I have 2 pieces of 3/16" thick aluminum plate left over so after I do a little research i think i won't reinstall the angle iron but some of the left over aluminum plate.

I will post some pics but my youngest daughter just replaced my phone with a 'google phone" and for some reason it won't let me upload pics like my year old Sansung.

Long live the Nymphs........ :)

You should start a new thread about your SN resto.

OK, how do I start a new thread?
I don't see any "commands/buttons" for doing so.

In the mean time, I've a question.
How far above the bottom of the hull should be the transoms plywood be?

I recently modified the transom of a 1956 Sea Nymph to use a new Mercury 9.9 4 stroke on it .

And best covered in a topic about your work and project, not here in the group "Post a pix" topic.

Esp when the work generates questions loke Watermanns. For what its worth, I agree w his assessment.

With the addition of the hard rubber riveted to the transom , the motor clamps on pretty well .I perceived no flex at all in some fairly choppy water .

My father-in-law gave us his well beloved/used '86 fishing machine. We needed to replace the plywood decks, but restored back to original layout. Other then the plywood and carpet, all else is original at this time. Currently looking for a mounting plate for the starboard downrigger, as it had disappeared with the original carpet at some time before we got it...I will probably need to custom manufacture one though....Cannon parts don't appear to go that far back...

I just bought a 1991 FM161, last owner had it for 20 years. Its a little tired, but all original, and all there. I need to find some new seat post bushings, the seats wobble. Also, I read these boats had an all aluminum floor, they called it tuf-dek, can anyone confirm?

Picked up a new to me gls 220 sportfisher. A friend had the option to buy it but said it was just “too much boat” for him. After 4 days of trying to get every friend that has told me that they want a boat for spring and having no success i decided i just couldn’t pass up the deal myself i pulled the trigger. One owner since new in 1991 and it was ordered with every option available at the time. Upholstery needs to be redone but other than that its a solid boat! Many projects will be done with this boat over the next couple years. Heres just a few pictures of how i got it compared to after a deep clean!

1986 Sea Nymph Fishing Machine 146
Bought a couple years ago from original owner. Has a 25 HP Mercury XD
I believe is a 1986 as well. My first boat (shared with my dad) Love it so far!

Upgrades: Rewired trailer lights to LED submersible
New anchor and anchor line
2 new seats, plus added a removable mount on the front bench for a seat (3 total)
Replaced rear light mount, had to run a wire directly to the battery since the back plug was not getting power
Boat cover
Regular maintenance to the motor
Built a motor stand on wheels for the gas motor, trolling motors, and gas tanks (6 gallon) to be stored in the winter
Added another set of rod holders for the side wall (boat came with 4) now can hold a total of 8 rods
Added 3 rod holders, one screwed on 2 removable
Working on a new fish finder GPS.

1981 Sea Nymph - SS 165 V with 1978 - 85 HP Johnson Javelin - 1981 Dilly roller trailer
-I took the dive and bought this Sea Nymph boat (after reading many posts on this forum). It is rough around the edges (it had been docked in a river and was caked with all sorts of crud and has significant dock rash/paint rubbed off) - yet it (so far) floats/cruises well and the motor works very well (knock on wood this continues) . Took many hours of hard scrubbing/power washing (used almost a gallon of ZING boat cleaner) to clean the boat and motor. I have had it on the lake twice and so far so good.

Hello! My name is Ed And I thought it would be cool to start a Thread for people who own sea nymph boats here on Iboats.com . Here you can post up what kind of seanymph you own or owned. You Can post pictures, Ask questions about your sea nymph or other seanymph boats . You can also post up pictures of any old broshures of any and all sea nymph boats and models that you may have lieing around. Anything seanymph here goes and is allowed! :D
Im refreshing a 1989 Fishing Machine 161B I picked up after n my Mom passed away in May as a distraction. Rotted decks and dirty, but the bones were solid. Honestly, we are having a lot of fun with it. My son is going to school to be a marine mechanic (from repair to fabrication) and his class went through the wiring and motor with a fine comb. The motor saw very little use and is still strong. (1990 Johnson 48hp, No VRO). The transom is solid (they did a survey, too) with no leaks. I cut and covered the decking over the summer; he did the foam and installed the decking last weekend. Everything is back to ABYC standards. Still have lots to do on the console and cleaning the oxidized stained hull.
