ok, so im in the stage of shopping quotes for my first boat...
my question is one of maybe some slight ignorance...
do all boat owner have trailers?
ive noticed a few boats i like and clicked "calculate shipping/transport" from semi local dealers and the quotes were under $200 .... so my question is really if the boat is going directly to a marina for year round dockage, do i need a trailer? i really dont have storage room it.... thought?
thanks in advance.. John

No, if you plan to keep the boat at a marina you absolutely don't need a trailer.....
BUT- they sure come in handy if you need to haul the boat out of the water for any reason. Most marinas charge $$$$ for hauling.

thanks arks .... i understand that over time if the boat possibly needs to be hauled out/in a couple of times.. the cost of the trailer will probably be equal to or less than the cost of the hauls itself, which would suck....
but i just dont have room to store the trailer

Not at all if you plan on keeping the boat in one spot. You would still be faced with storing the trailer if boat is in dry storage. If you want to do minor work cleaning etc most marina's will put your boat on an outside cradle if you call in advance. The only thing I have heard negative about dry storage is if they only have one fork lift and it breaks down on a weekend. Of course that's assuming you have no problem with the associated costs involved.

Good luck and enjoy your boating

PS I based the above on the fact the boat would be in dry not wet storage, sorry if I jumped the gun. Wet storage opens up a whole new can of worms depending on salt or fresh water docking.

I would bet over time you will make friends at the marina who would pull the boat out for cheap, or a 6-pack. I would do it for somebody.
