the lower unit wont drop

on my mecury 700 thunderbolt as i loosen the 5/8 nutts locatedon each side of the exhausthousing the lower unit starts to drop . as i loosen them more the unit doesnt move anymore .i tried appling pressure even beat on it , what could be jamin it?

If all nuts are loose and still won't drop it is seized up. That is why they say replace impeller every year, so LU is dropped regularly. If seized use a wedge to split them appart. When I had a 65 hp that was seized I got a wedge from lowes in the garden section made for splitting wood. Use a rubber mallet to tap at it. Just be careful not to damage anything internal. And leave the nuts on a couple threads to catch the LU when it falls free or place a block of wood under it.
