My youngest, Hayden, has completed Grade 12 and High School.
He wanted to go to University but was on the very edge of qualifying-not qualifying.
Then out of the blue, after having finished school, he was advised he had won the Principals Recommendation for University Award.
This allowed him to apply for the degree he wanted, and his application would be considered first, irrespective of his results.
The Principal of each school (in the chain of private schools) could put forward 1 student.

The University accepted him into the B. Of Business Admin, which is exactly what he wanted - 1st choice - plus it allows him to do a 4th yr music for a double.

Our system requires kids going to Uni to get on OP score (Overall Position).
Kids joke OP1 is top 1%, OP5 top 5% etc.
His course required an OP17 and he got an OP18, BUT, having said that, they offer places to the OP1's first, then the OP 2's etc so there is a good chance there are no positions available for OP17's anyway.

We understand the award goes to the student who has tried the hardest over 3 years, may just miss qualifying, and would benefit the most from this award.
Hayden was always disappointed at missing top awards at school. He is a practical young man - "stuff missing out on the ......award. I got the big one!"
All the other kids have to wait till January for their offers and hope they get their 1st choices.

Of course, Mum and Dad can't retire just yet. We will keep him and give him part time work here. I have also told him if he is good to his Mum, works hard and passes, I'll pick up the tab for his degree, otherwise he can take a student loan.

Oh, JB, he is just about as well behaved as the 2 pooches now.

Cheers
Phillip

That award sounds like an incredible honor to me. Congrats to your son. The attitude which got him that award will server him well in college as well as life.

That's great news. Did Hayden abandon his cosmetic packaging idea? I guess now we'll have no more stories about the dog racing the school bus.:D

Congratulations Kiwi!!

I have my youngest at home and she will graduate High School in 2 years I can't wait! Happy for her to move on to college and me to move on in my career, I promised her I wouldn't become a Sheriff's Deputy until she was out of High School!

I apologise for not responding to your question.
Yes and No is the answer.
He purchased a small range of 'creams' women use, packaged in some containers the manufacturer customised for him.
Then he learnt he was not going to be able to market them easily, and although we discussed in some detail him setting up a 'network' at school (sort of like a party plan - he even had one girl wanting to be the 'agent' for the grade 10's 9n return for a %) he didn't take to the idea.
He established 2 product names, one for the young kids, G 8, 9 10 and one for the G 11,12.
Mother says his product is great - little different to the 'big brand lines'.
But, all is not lost.
I have drilled in to him to put together a proper business plan on all these things and ideas he tackles, and keep them to himself. That way he can always go back as he matures.

As for the dog and the school bus - I worry now as to what uni students get up to!!
Cheers

Re: The kids finished High School

Today was the big day - first day at Uni.
He has been bored since finishing G12 in November, and wanting to get on with his study.
I have him working for me, but "it's not the same Dad!"
Putting him on the train this morning was not easy, and I wanted to say something 'meaningful', but he was out of the truck and gone.
Mother and I both went in to collect him tonight. We were very apprehensive as to what he would be like, but when he walked up to the car we could see him grinning from ear-to-ear.
Mother, well me to I suppose, find it hard to believe this tall skinny 17 yo kid is at Uni.
I personally find this situation both sad and happy. Maybe our world is a bit softer these days.

QC. Anita says hello and asks when you will be back down this way?

Cheers
Phillip
