it was a skit where he (Will Farrell) was in the band recording the song "don't fear the reaper", and they kept cutting and yelling "WE NEED MORE COWBELL". So he was going to town on the cowbell as you see in the avatar. If someone has a link to the skit please post it, it's definitely worth watching.
