These plans are not Bush Plans.They have been agreed upon years ago.The deadline has been pushed back time and again.Maybe this is an effort to make the next deadline stick.

This is about homeland security, and freeing up analog signals and channels for first responders, and multi-agency use of the same freq in times of crisis.<br /><br />Actually, rolmops is right, and this has been in planning for years, but McCain and others ramrodded it thru. They wanted the deadline much sooner, but settled on 2009.

The reason the inter-agency radio systems are planned for the 700-800 mhz band is to provide digital capability. Homeland security doesn't need analog space.<br /><br />The gov't wants to reassign the band plan to market the bands commercially, to raise funds.

the real problem with digital TV broadcasts (open air) is if there is snow in your picture now, you wont have that channel anymore leaving those of us who live rural f##### as far as getting news etc. without going to satellite TV like dish or direct TV. My grip with them is that if I pay for a channel I should not have to watch commercials! Give me a break, they get paid to for the air time and I have to pay to watch it too, count me out. The only thing I watch now is the news, there are better things in life to do, like go fishing!
