Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

Congrat's to you too JB!

I've been reading with interest some of your messages about Lake of the Woods. I've never been there but considering it this year. For the past 3 years I've planned a one week trip to the South Bay area of Lake Nipissing for 6 to 10 guys. This past year we had to work harder to get the fish than previous years, but I did get my Muskie on the last day. Mostly Northern, Large Mouth, and Smallie action with good size - never had much luck there for walleye. Can't say that we ever had days where we got tired of catching fish - like some stories I've heard about Canadian trips.

The guys look to me to make the arrangements and want to try something new this year. My buddies come from Southern Indiana, Norhtern Ohio, and Midwestern Michigan. We're limited to drive-ins so we can use our own boats.

My impression is that you've fished many places and I'm really interested any recommedations/experiences you'd like to share.

Thanks,
Buckeye Angler with the Fever

And thanks for your responce about the Alumacraft - I bought it!
Tony
:)

Ahoy, Tony.

The Northwest Angle of MN is the place to drive to. Several resorts there and others that you boat to from there. Check "Musky Hunter" or "Esox Angler" for ads and contacts. Email me if you have questions. I don't want to SPAM our site.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Caught and released a 22'Redfin. Should have seen the look on that guys face when the popping cork bounced off his windshield. I was wade fishing a wide open flat down here on the Texas coast that had plenty of room to run that boat.

59# Sailfish
9 # BlackBass

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

I caught my two biggest fish on the same day. I caught a bull shark that weighed 247 pounds and a hammerhead that weighed 156. I was one tired puppy!

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

I have caught 50 # stripers, 48 # salmon, 46#snook (florida), 20# blues, 25#lake trout and 250# school tuna but the biggest fish I ever caught was a fluke (event not the fish).
I was trolling for bluefish off Halibut point near Gloester when giant tuna started jumping straight out of the water chasing the blues. One of them crashed into my 23' Proline coming up (almost capsizing me). He stunned himself so bad I was able to throw a line around him to pull him close to the boat. I measured him (56 inches long) and let him go since I did not have a permit. i think he was more than 500#'s but had no way to weigh him. Fortunately the boat held up and I continued on with the thrill of a lifetime behind me!!

Whats the largest mamal you have caught on a fishing pole. I was fishing with 200lb steel line and hooked a nice male seal. After about 3 hours he gave up and we landed the first seal in Oregon. Guessing it was 900lbs

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

In the late 70's I was a mear slip of a lad at 27. Went out on a headboat from H&M landing in SD for Albacore with a bunch of old farts from work. (I'm older than they were now). Travelled about 90 miles SW and in the early AM the sea was running about a 6 to 8 foot swell but the wind hadn't come up yet. The skipper got us into the Albacore. Up to this point I had been on a number of Alby trips but never had seen one yet. We began flying line with live anchovies (no weight) and these torpedoes would run past the boat a full spead and hammer them hard. Toss the free wheel lock or burn your thumb these seagoing velociraptors hit them at full spead. These fish were averaging 25 to 30 pounds each. As the day went on most of the guys got too tireed to keep this up. Youth was on my side and although I was exhausted I knew I'd probably would never see anything like this again. I finished the day with 13 in my bag. I fed the entire neighborhood for weeks. Fish in the freezer my girlfriends freezer her dads freezer the neighbors freezer. I had little money and lived on those fish over a month to the point I would breakout in hives whenever I ate them. The day after the frenzy I couldn't figure out why my belly hurt so. I thought I might have apendicitis until I realized I was bruised from the rod butt. Too much fun

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

92 lb. halibut in Inland Passage near Ketchikan, AK (silver jig). Had to shoot it with a .38 before attempting to bring it into the boat. Think I caught a bigger one, but after he towed my 16' tin boat for a few feet, he broke off.
57 lb. Chinook on Nehalem River, Oregon. Big gob of eggs drifting in tide water.
6.7 lb. Walleye, Colombia River, near Vancouver, WA.
Fouledplug, knowing my cheap Alaska friends as I do, it was probably Bud Lite, which ruins an otherwise good story..... :)

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

jimbo250, thats awesome! A somewhat similar event happened to us while night fishing for tuna only the fish that crashed our party was a huge mako that was chasing squid. Thank God it managed to thrash itself back overboard. Tipped a couple buckets of chum and scared the you know what out of me!

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

My biggest fish was probably a shark while Tarpon fishing. I normally fish fresh water so I guess the catfish I catch are my biggest.

Re: THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

I got a 25 foot great white about 25 years ago. I tore apart our boat and killed the charter captain, but I shoved an oxygen tank in its mouth and then when it was swimming for me, I shot the tank and blew it up.
