True and this was a case of a friend of a friend put him onto it, the car was never advertised or even put out with a for sale sign.

I bet it doesn't have so much as a door ding. I see old people driving old cars around town and they look show room new. I can only imagine a 2011 with only break in miles.

It's great for the SIL for sure. Never owned or driven a Toyota but I sure see a lot of them on the road and one friend that has one has 150K on the clock and it still runs great. They can't be all bad.

Well I bailed my sis out years ago and took over payments on her Toyota. I think I put in about 4 quarts of oil in it a week no joke and it was pretty new...maybe just a lemon but it left a bad taste. But that said, I'm too cheap to pay the foreign car premium. When American cars start to hold their value as good as foreign, I will have several new brands to select from.

I had a Toyota Corolla that had 240K miles on it when I sold it and it used less than a qt between oil changes. American cars depreciate a lot for a good reason compared to a Toyota.

I've had two of them, bought one used and one new. wouldn't give you a nickel for one now days. their service, dealership and quality of vehicle did not impress me at all. I was rid of both of them quickly, 6 months for the new one and a year for the used one.

Well that's the thing. I've been extraordinarily lucky with all of my cars. I'm talking 10 years with nothing breaking or needing to be replaced on some of them. Only very basic maintenance such as brakes and other wear items like tires. My 2000 minivan literally never saw a mechanic except for a waterpump from corrosion in 10 years, same with my 1997 Bonneville and several more. Only bad one I ever got was a Chrysler and I just didn't want to baby it like it needed. My current SUV is going down the same path. My wife's isn't but luckily has a warranty tossed in for free at the dealer. I'd think like you if I had any bad experiences but continue to knock on wood. I like the look of foreign cars and always feel like they are technologically ahead of the curve historically though.

My dad insisted on buying GM cars the last 20 years because we had GM employee discounts. Too many problems to even mention. Was always the cars and not the trucks however.

They definitely are better later on although my mom's 2007 Buick doesn't hold a candle to my Lexus GS as far as reliability goes.

Re: The argument for a new car.

I have an old customer that has a 4 year old Buick LaCrosse with about 7K on it. Trying to get him to let me sell it for him so he doesn't drive and hurt himself or someone else (it has a few dings in it) and so I can make a buck in the process, or put a close relative in a great car for a good price. Will see what happens ...:wink:

As conservative and pragmatic as I am especially with cars...I'd have dropped American cars quickly if they didn't meet my needs. Number one is reliable/low cost of ownership. I've got zero loyalty but follow my wallet.

that may be the issue. I always have trucks.

BTW you can't compare a Lexus to a Buick. LOL that's like apples to prunes. LOL

The engine is the same as a Toyota. The engine in my 2005 is the exact same straight six engine that was in a Toyota Supra. Same goes for every mechanical component in the car.

yep, although I would think they would keep the "better" quality components for the Lexus.

Most components are not even made by Toyota. The only thing that differentiates the 2 lines is the body.
