Actually, they do bite to hold onto their prey until they can wrap around them and constrict them. That's why the teeth are angled backwards-to hold on to the prey.
Not sure on the folding, Les, but I don't believe they do. I know snakes have died trying to consume something too large, mostly because they could not spit it back out. I imagine because of the teeth.
